Morteza Zabolian

Biography

I am Morteza Zabolian, born in 1956, and I have been in this profession since I was 6 years old. My teachers were Professor Akhavan Chitzar, Professor Azizolah Atrian, and Professor Poursanai. After training, I started doing this with my brother. In my family, only two of us do this profession, and we have been doing this profession since childhood. This work is called Qalamkari, which has been a Qalamkari tablecloth since ancient times and has various types of tablecloths, beds, and tablecloths. Sometimes they even made shoes from this work. Most of my designs are Iranian, especially the attractive Bateh Jagheh and Aali Qapu ceiling designs. The way I work is that we order the size for a tablecloth, and they prepare the fabric and cut it to any size you want. And then this cloth is spun by the roots so that the water absorption of the cloth is clear and there is no more water absorption. After this, it is washed again with pomegranate peel and we make its color, which we used zag and tragacanth to make the color, and finally it is washed again and then cooked and then steamed to be ready for sale to the customer. The fabric must be made of all yarn so that the color can form better on it. The seals are made of pear wood and I collect the designs of these from different places and carve them into a mold to implement the design on the wood. All my molds are from old designs and wood that are hand-carved and are very old.
